Burn Injury
Advocacy for victims facing severe burn injuries, long-term treatment, and recovery.
Burn Injury
Burn injuries are among the most painful and debilitating injuries a person can suffer. They often require extensive medical treatment, including skin grafts and reconstructive surgery, and can result in permanent scarring and disfigurement.
Degrees of Burns
- First-degree burns: Affect only the outer layer of skin (epidermis). They cause redness and pain but usually heal within a week.
- Second-degree burns: Affect the epidermis and the second layer of skin (dermis). They cause swelling, red or white splotchy skin, and blisters. They can be very painful and may cause scarring.
- Third-degree burns: Reach the fat layer beneath the skin. The burned area may be black, brown, or white. These burns can destroy nerves, causing numbness.
- Fourth-degree burns: Appear black and charred. They may extend into muscle and bone.
Causes of Burn Injuries
Burn injuries can occur in many ways, including:
- Car and truck accidents
- Defective products (e.g., exploding electronics, faulty wiring)
- Workplace accidents
- House fires
- Scalding liquids
- Chemical exposure
Long-Term Consequences
Survivors of severe burns often face a long road to recovery. In addition to the initial treatment, they may need physical therapy to regain mobility in affected areas. The psychological impact of disfigurement and the trauma of the accident can also be significant, requiring counseling and support. In many cases, the victim's life is changed forever.
The treatment of serious burn injuries is a long and painful process. The victim likely will require multiple surgeries and skin grafts. The victim is susceptible to life-threatening infections. Even with the best medical care, the victim is often left with horrific, disfiguring scars. In addition to the physical pain and suffering, the victim also suffers from the emotional trauma of the injury and the disfigurement.
At Phillips Law, we have experience representing victims of serious burn injuries. We understand the medical treatment involved and the long-term effects of the injury. We work with medical experts to determine the full extent of the injury and the cost of future medical care. We also work with life care planners to determine the cost of future care and the loss of earning capacity. We are committed to helping our clients get the compensation they deserve for their injuries.
Psychological Trauma
The emotional scars of a burn injury can be as deep as the physical ones. Many victims suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), anxiety, and depression. The changes in their appearance can also lead to social isolation and loss of self-esteem. We understand that these psychological injuries are just as real and debilitating as the physical ones.
We will fight to recover damages for the pain and suffering, mental anguish, and loss of enjoyment of life that you have experienced. You shouldn't have to bear this burden alone.
Seeking Compensation

If your injury was caused by someone else's negligence, you have the right to seek justice. We have the experience and resources to investigate the cause of your injury and hold the responsible parties accountable.
